Australian FMM meeting with FMM in Malaysia |
We are women of Australia living in the global community of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary - women religious from more than 70 countries.
We have experienced a call to follow Christ in the path traced out by Helene de Chappotin, Foundress of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, and Francis of Assisi. |
| |
We seek:
To view the world and its realities from a feminine perspective. |
To enable women to be aware of their dignity and nurture their self-confidence and self-esteem.
In a divided world, to live as sisters in international communities. |
In a consumer society, to witness to simplicity of life. |
To deal with the effects of globalisation on the poor, the marginalised and on the environment. |
To always share the love of God. |
FMM and friends join other Australians in marching for peace and reconciliation |
| |
Both prayer and action are part of FMM community life in Australia and worldwide |
We strive to live a balance of prayer and action and our Institute's orientation to universal mission which asks us to be ready to go anywhere at the service of the Gospel. |
| |
You will find Franciscan Missionaries of Mary working at the grass roots in some of the poorest places on earth while others work with organisations like the UN to lobby for positive change. Some provide University education for women while others provide health seminars for impoverished villages. We work in prisons, in crisis centres, in refugee camps, in media and the arts. Whatever the needs, we are there, as Helene was, to be a witness to "truth and love". |
